Material: Ductile Iron

Available Sizes: 1", 1-1/4", 1-1/2", 2", 2-1/2", 3", 4", 5", 6", 8", 10",12"

Finish: Non-leaded orange paint

Maximum Operating Pressure: 300psi

Connection: Grooved/Grooved

This Grooved Rigid Coupling is used in fire suppression systems, thus allowing water to flow easier and allowing for inflexibility in the joint. A pad is included with the purchase of this product. It is constructed of rubber polymers with low compressions set properties. Pads help form an initial seal as it is stretched over the pipe ends and creates a leak proof seal. The Coupling helps ensure this seal once installed.

ANGLE PAD (RIGID) COUPLINGS VS FLEXIBLE COUPLINGS

Angle pad couplings and flexible couplings serve distinct purposes in piping systems. Angle pad couplings provide a rigid connection, preventing angular and axial movement, similar to flanged or welded joints.  Flexible couplings, on the other hand, allow for controlled linear and angular movement, accommodating pipe deflection, thermal expansion, and contraction.

ANGLE PAD (RIGID) COUPLINGS

  • Rigid Connection:
Angle pad couplings are designed to create a rigid joint, preventing any movement between connected pipes.
  • Applications:
They are suitable for situations requiring a strong, stable connection, similar to those achieved with traditional methods like flanging or welding.
  • Benefits:
They can simplify installation and maintenance compared to traditional methods, especially in fire-fighting or water supply systems.
  • Limitations:
They don't allow for any flexibility or movement, which can be a disadvantage in systems with thermal expansion or contraction.

FLEXIBLE COUPLINGS

  • Controlled Movement:
Flexible couplings allow for controlled linear and angular movement of the connected pipes, accommodating factors like thermal expansion/contraction and slight misalignments.
  • Applications:
They are useful in systems with potential for movement or deflection, such as those with seismic activity or vibration.
  • Benefits:
They can reduce stress, vibration, and wear on the system, and also compensate for thermal expansion.
  • Limitations:
They require careful design and support to manage movement and prevent undue stress on the system.
SUMMARY
  • Choose angle pad couplings when you need a rigid, non-moving connection.
  • Choose flexible couplings when you need to accommodate movement, deflection, or thermal expansion.
